The 5 Words You Must Say to Lose Fat

The 5 Words You Must Say to Lose Fat

For a moment, forget any advice you’ve heard about diet and exercise. None of it matters without a proper beginning.

Fat loss starts with a single phrase consisting of 5 words (which I’ll share in a minute).

I Promise, It’s Relevant

Apparently, more than three quarters of us think we’re above average drivers. This is despite the fact that:

  1. It’s statistically impossible.

  2. Almost all of us can admit to having done something unsafe while driving (e.g. eating, texting, tailgating, etc.).

We might think we’re more capable than others of handling our phones while we drive, but it’s not likely true. The only measurable indicators of being safe behind the wheel is what the data has shown makes a difference (like putting down our phones) — even if we’re not fully convinced.

Now what does this have to do with losing fat?

I Know, You Know, We All Know We Know

Despite the fact that the majority of Americans are overweight, most people are pretty sure they know how to lose fat and get in shape, even if they aren’t that great at actually doing it.

Often times the issue isn’t about knowing what works, it’s about improperly applying it to your unique circumstances.

For instance…

  • You know sleep is an important part of fat loss, but you think it doesn’t play a crucial role in your own journey.

  • You know portion control is critical, but you think you already have a decent idea of how much protein, carbs, fat, and veggies you eat each day.

  • You know taking an extreme approach to exercise isn’t sustainable for most people, but you think an intense challenge is just the kick in the pants you need.

It’s examples like these (and so many more) that dictate your success, and it’s why declaring these 5 words can be so powerful:

“This could apply to me.”

The person who swerves all over the road as they stare at their phone can’t become a better driver until they’re willing to entertain the idea that texting affects their concentration. And the person struggling with fat loss will continue to struggle until they set aside their preconceived notions of what will help.

The Next Step

Think of the fat loss recommendations you know to be credible.

You know, the tips that aren’t trendy, are kind of boring, and make you think, “Yeah, that’s good advice for most people, but that’s not my problem.” Except, this time, consider it all with the mindset that maybe — just maybe — it’s still relevant to you.

If you need a place to start, check out our blog called 9 Things that Actually Matter for Fat Loss.

As you read through the list, remember the 5 words “This could apply to me.”

Then pick just one thing to work on. Even if you think it won’t make a difference, give it a chance. If you don’t see any changes after a couple months (yes, it takes that long), then feel free to email me and tell me how wrong I was.

(But for the record, I’m not too worried about it.)

Oh, and one more thing. Another common mistake is thinking you don’t need help with this stuff.

The truth of the matter is that most people don’t actually know as much as they think they do about the best ways to lose fat, and they would be more successful if they were to hire a coach.

Does this apply to you?
